August SSAA Chairman's Report
August 2009 - SSAA Chairman - Jonathan Perrins, Steel Storage Group CEO
Having just returned from the USA and Europe it was good to note that our industry is trading well.
The only area of concern is bank lending on new developments. Therefore things are going to be a bit slower on the development side for the next twelve months as we see the same trends in Australia.
The need to share knowledge and current experiences is of the utmost importance at the moment as we carefully plot our way through this recession. Probably one of the biggest mistakes in these times is not seeking information exchange at a conference or industry event.
We have provided one of the strongest speaker line ups ever to ensure our members are getting the best information we can deliver. Make certain you book early and support the annual conference to gain the insights that will be available through speakers and being with your colleagues.
The time is also on us for elections of Board seats. The board is very important and we ask anyone who has something to offer to put their name forward for election. This billion dollar industry needs good direction and leadership, which comes from our members. The positions coming forward are Queensland (northern region), Victoria and Tasmania (southern regions).
We, as a Board, have committed to various initiatives to help with the development of storage sites. The first of those is the Traffic and Parking study. We hope you can make use of this in any future developments. We are also planning the Fire Study for next year. This will assist in one of the most challenging areas of self storage development.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Conference on the Gold Coast in Spring.
